Ford Explorer

Ford Explorer • 1st generation • 1990–1994

The Ford Explorer SUV appeared in the brand's lineup in 1990 as a replacement for the Bronco model. The car was produced with a three- and five-door body until 1994. There was no choice of engines - a four-liter V-shaped "six" with a capacity of 155 hp was installed on all cars. With. (since 1993 - 170 hp), which worked in tandem with a manual gearbox or with an "automatic". The base car was rear-wheel drive, with an all-wheel drive transmission an option.

Ford Explorer • 2nd generation • 1994–2003

In 1995, the production of second-generation cars began (since 1997, also versions under the Mercury brand). Explorer got a new look and a more comfortable interior. In addition to the previous 4.0 V6 engine (its power was increased to 205 hp), customers were offered a modification with a 5.0 V8 engine that developed 210-215 hp. With. The cars were equipped with three types of all-wheel drive transmission: Full-Time AWD permanent without downshift, Part-Time connected, as on the first generation of the model, and ControlTrac 4WD with three modes (reverse, automatic and low gear). In 2001, the Ford Explorer Sport Trac pickup was introduced. The production of five-door versions ceased in 2001 with the advent of a new generation of cars, and three-doors with a slightly modified appearance were made until 2003.

Ford Explorer • 3rd generation • 2000–2005

The third generation Ford Explorer, now only five-door, began production in 2002. The car was created on a completely new chassis with independent rear suspension. Its engine range was made up of the old 205-horsepower 4.0 V6 and the new 240-horsepower 4.6 V8 engine. At first, the SUV was equipped with a five-speed manual or automatic transmission, and since 2003 - only "automatic". Another novelty was the seven-seater saloon.

Ford Explorer • 4th generation • 2005–2010

The fourth Explorer, which was the result of a deep modernization of the previous model, was produced from 2005 to 2010. Engines 4.0 V6 (210 hp) or 5.0 V8 (292 hp) were installed on it. The first motor was aggregated with a five-speed “automatic”, the second with a six-speed one.
