The range of modifications of the Peugeot 206 has significantly expanded compared to its predecessor - in addition to 3- and 5-door hatchbacks, there is a station wagon (SW), a sedan and a convertible coupe. Unlike all other versions, the sedan is not produced in France, but in Iran. The quality of this modification is up to the mark. There were no characteristic problems with the electric top folding and with the roof itself in SS coupe-cabriolets.
In early 2009, the creators subjected the model to a facelift. Peugeot 206+ differs significantly only in the front.
The salon of the 206th is small, but very cozy, thanks to its stylish design, even today it does not look outdated. A wide range of front seat adjustments allows people of different body types to comfortably sit. Compared to many competitors, the wheelbase of the 206 is the smallest (only 2440 mm), which affected the space between the front and rear seats. The rear headrests descend over the seat, in this position they rest against the back and interfere with a comfortable fit, but in the raised position they slightly block visibility. Comments on the quality of the interior trim can only be presented to version 206 SS - after 2 years of operation, the plastic of the skin begins to creak.
The 206 has good passive safety in the 2000 EuroNCAP crash tests, it won 4 out of 5 stars.
On copies manufactured before 2005, the steering column control unit for turns can create problems - when the steering wheel returns to the middle position with the “turn signal” on, the signal lights of the other side turn on. The block is not repaired, and it has to be changed entirely. Here, a break in the wiring of the driver's airbag connection may also occur, as indicated by the airbag malfunction warning light on the instrument panel.

In our operating conditions, the exhaust system, on average, after 2 years of service, becomes unusable - the middle part and the muffler rot the fastest. Another problematic place is the mudguards. They are made of hard plastic and often break off when driving carelessly on country roads or curbs.
The restyled Peugeot 206+ front resembles its "relatives" - models 207 and 307, but it has not changed at the back.
Among gasoline engines, 8-valve units with a volume of 1.1 and 1.4 liters deliver the most problems. By a run of 150 thousand km, the valve cover gasket loses its tightness. The idle speed controller often becomes clogged, which manifests itself in unstable engine operation (can be cleaned). Due to the quality of the fuel, spark plugs and lambda probes do not last long. Most often, the first lambda, which stands in front of the catalyst, becomes unusable. Unlike other units, the cylinder head of 1.1 and 1.4 liter engines is not equipped with hydraulic lifters, therefore, every 70–80 thousand km, when replacing the timing belt and rollers, it is also necessary to adjust the thermal clearances of the valves.
In the "16-valve" 1.6 liters, the ignition coils occasionally "fly out", and in the 2.0-liter units the fuel injection system can "act up" - until the engine warms up, it is unstable, and there is also a metallic ringing caused by weakening exhaust manifold crosspieces. The problem is solved by a simple welding of the collector.
We have gasoline modifications that do not have a replaceable fine fuel filter. To avoid problems with fuel equipment, experts recommend installing adapters offered as additional equipment that allow this fuel filter to be included in the system.
In all units, failures of the electric fans of the cooling system were noted - they are installed in front of the radiator and are subject to intense wear due to moisture and dirt.
On the market there are versions with a manual transmission. These units are similar to those used on the Peugeot 307 and share common problems. In the manual gearbox, after 40–50 thousand km, oil leaks were noted due to the seals of the axle shafts that had lost their tightness. Experts advise installing protection for the engine compartment, which will protect the units from water and dirt.
Excellent safety of the body contributes to the galvanization of the outer panels. If the car has not been in an accident, rust is difficult to find even on older copies.
In automatic transmissions, oil leakage is provoked by a leaky gasket installed at the junction of the middle part of the crankcase. Operation of the unit with insufficient oil leads to failure of the gearshift valves. The malfunction manifests itself in the incorrect functioning of the automatic transmission - gear shifting occurs with jerks, the sports mode of operation is spontaneously switched on, etc. (spare parts and work). By the way, the replaced gaskets serve without problems. It is difficult to control the level of lubrication in the automatic transmission because it does not have the usual dipstick. For trouble-free operation, the "automatic" requires the use of only synthetic oil Esso ATF 4HP20-AL4 (LT 71141).
