Polaris Sportsman XP 850

Since 2009, the Polaris ATV lineup has been headlined by the new Sportsman XP 850

The plastic “body kit” has undergone restyling: “ribs” have appeared on the front and rear wings of the new product - additional fixing protrusions of the cargo areas. Cast aluminum rims instantly catch the eye: they make the ATV look stylish

The thing is that the 850 is built on the basis of a completely new frame, the dimensions and shape of which made it possible to install the engine longitudinally. Thanks to this, it became possible to increase the “living space” for the rider.

Inherited from previous models, the 850 received a lever for switching transmission modes. The position of the lever, which has the shape of a “mirrored” letter L, is fixed more clearly than before. In principle, this arrangement allows you to switch faster than moving along a zigzag slot, although it takes a little time to get used to this arrangement of modes.

The engine for the Sportsman 850 was also created from scratch. The radiator, in order to reduce the risk of dirt getting in, is installed 12 mm higher than on the 800 EFI model. In addition, its size has been increased by 20%, and it is easier to maintain thanks to a removable luggage platform with Lock & Ride fastening system.

The power of a two-cylinder eight-valve engine with a displacement of 850 cubic meters. cm reaches 75 l. With. Compared to the previous 800 cc engine, not only the traction characteristics have improved: by using two balancer shafts and mounting the engine to the frame through special dampers, Polaris engineers managed to achieve a significant reduction in extraneous noise and vibration.
