Weaknesses of automatic transmission ZF.

ZF automatic transmissions are quite reliable, despite some childhood sores. The first breakdowns begin somewhere around 150 thousand km. run. Much depends on the operating conditions and the correct maintenance of the box.

After repair, another 150-200 thousand serve perfectly, subject to proper operation and timely replacement of oil and filters.

 

The 4hp series most often break:

Hydroblock

 

Pump

 

Central support.

 

Series 5HP - weak points are:

Valve body - the main malfunction is that the plates burst due to overheating, the valves are wedged. As a result, jerks, kicks, pushes, blows, slips appear.

Solenoids - the main pressure.

Pump - rotates the support sleeve.

Central caliper - breaks off the piston, because of it the gears stop turning on.

 

6HP Series - 6HP19, 6HP21, 6HP26, 6HP28, 6HP32

Drum E - Main

Mechatronics,

Pump

Bushings on the shafts - their wear leads to a loss of pressure and the automatic transmission begins to slip and burn the clutches.

Wiring connector - oil leak appears.

Mechatronics solenoids

Drums S. V - fail quite often. There is an oil leak from the microcracks that have appeared.

 

8HP Series - 8HP45, 8HP70, 8HP55, 8HP90

Torque converter - by 150 thousand, its clutch package fails

Drum E - made of aluminum, scuffs appear in the places where the friction clutches fit

Planetary gear P2 - made of aluminum, its resource is about 300 thousand

Oil pump - destroyed due to torque converter vibrations.

Bushings - fail due to vibrations and lead to pressure losses and clutch slippage.
