🔧 Engine and injection system
3.2L / 3.5L V6:
Oil leaks through the valve cover gasket and seals.
Increased oil consumption (especially for 3.5L DOHC).
3.0L diesel (4JX1):
Frequent problems with the fuel system and high-pressure pump (especially when using low-quality diesel).
Oil pressure sensors (determine the operation of the injection) fail.
Diesel particulate filter and turbine - prone to clogging.
There may be problems with the injection system - requires accurate diagnostics and original spare parts.
⚙️ Transmission and transfer
Manual transmission - the release bearing and clutch may require replacement closer to 150-200 thousand km.
Automatic transmission - quite reliable at early mileage, but may suffer from overheating. Requires oil change every 50-60 thousand km.
All-wheel drive switching (if electronic) may be glitchy — weak drives or vacuum actuators.
🔩 Suspension and steering
Rapid wear of ball joints, stabilizer bushings and silent blocks.
The rear axle may "buzz" when bearings are worn out.
In cars with frequent off-road trips — damage to the upper arms of the front suspension.
⚡ Electrics
A weak point is the contacts of relays and fuses, especially in the underhood block.
Problems with the fuel level sensor, incorrect readings.
Malfunctions of wipers, especially the trapezoid and motor.
🛡️ Body
Corrosion of the rear arches, thresholds and bottom of the doors, especially in European models.
Problems with the spare wheel mount and the rear door (hinges and pillars break).
🔎 What to look for when buying:
Availability of receipts for fuel system repair (for diesel).
All-wheel drive operation - should turn on quickly and without extraneous sounds.
Absence of oil and antifreeze leaks.
Check the body for rust, especially from below.
Automatic/manual transmission condition - shifting should be smooth.
OBD2 Errors - be sure to run diagnostics.
