⚙️ Engine:
Increased oil consumption (especially 3.2L and 3.5L V6)
Causes: worn piston rings, crankcase ventilation (PCV), carbon deposits.
Symptoms: blue smoke, drop in oil level between changes.
Timing belt breakage without warning
Especially important for engines with an interference design (e.g. 3.2L DOHC).
Consequences: bent valves, damaged pistons.
Engine overheating
Causes: radiator leaks, water pump, sticking thermostat.
Occurs on all petrol and diesel modifications.
🔌 Electrical:
Alternator failure
Often accompanied by a flashing charge lamp or sudden loss of power.
Instrument cluster malfunctions and floating fuel level readings
ABS system failures
Often associated with failure of wheel speed sensors or wiring.
⚠️ Transmission:
4L30-E automatic transmission: jerks, shift delays, overheating
Causes: ATF aging, dirty filter, solenoids problems.
Regular oil change is recommended every ~40,000 km.
Knocking when shifting from P to D or R (on rear-wheel drive models)
Possible play in the universal joints or loosening of the cardan.
🛞 Suspension and body:
Squeaks and knocks in the rear suspension (springs, stabilizer bushings)
Especially on old Rodeos with high mileage.
Frame corrosion (especially the rear part, near the shock absorber mounts)
Common in regions where roads are treated with reagents.
❄️ Interior and climate:
Air conditioning malfunctions (compressor or freon leaks)
Often ineffective cooling or no cooling at all.
Stuck heater/air conditioning flaps
